Black Mirror episode ‘San Junipero’ nominated for two Emmy awards
The Black Mirror episode ‘San Junipero’ has been nominated for two Emmy awards.
The episode, from the Charlie Brooker show that initially premiered on BBC but has since moved to Netflix, features a lesbian couple.
It follows Yorkie and Kelly, two young women entangled in a lesbian love story with a twist: they’re living in a digitally created world.
While Black Mirror is known for criticising the direction that technology is moving in, San Junipero is a welcomed break with it’s beautiful story line.

The romantic duo is played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Kelly) and Mackenzie Davis (Yorkie).
Kelly is carefree, young and effortless in her extroverted coolness while Yorkie is timid and the embodiment of an 80’s indie nerd.
Yorkie chases Kelly in the fairy tale like hour long episode but viewers come to realise that their time together is limited.
In reality, the two women are elderly but have access to the world of San Junipero for eight hours a week so they can re-live being young once again.
The episode takes a sad turn when Kelly visits Yorkie in real life and realised that she has been comatose since she was in her 20’s.
Emmy organisers announced the nominations on Thursday.
Black Mirror writer, Charlie Brooker, is up for the Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special for the episode.
San Junipero has also been nominated for the Outstanding TV Movie award.
Orange is the New Black released a promo ahead of season five where the two worlds met.
The crossover skit featured fan favourite Taystee (Danielle Brooks) reunited with her dead friend Poussey (Samira Wiley).
Stephen Colbert will host the 69th Primetime Emmy awards ceremony on Sunday, September 17.
