Dawn French just erected an LGBT rainbow flag in her garden

Comic legend Dawn French has made a very big show of support for the LGBT community.

The Vicar of Dibley star, who recently released a new book, Me You, revealed on Twitter that her husband had given her a flag pole as a 60th birthday present.

And it turns out the comedian and author had no difficulty in deciding which flag to put up the pole.

Writing on Twitter, Dawn said she receives many flags which could be hoisted up the new flag pole.

But one stood out above all the others.

She wrote: “So, husband gets me a flagpole for big b’day. I receive many flags. Here’s the first one up….#allarewelcome”

The post has now been liked more than three thousand times.

Responding to the image of a rainbow flag, user Shane Telford quipped: “I suppose that makes you a flag hag now.”

It’s far from the comic’s first show of solidarity with the LGBT community.

The best-selling author previously revealed that she has had fantasies about other women.

The actress told The Telegraph: “I’ve thought about it. I haven’t wanted to do it enough otherwise I would have.”

“I’ve fantasised about all kinds of things, including [women].”

The Vicar of Dibley star also recalled locking lip with long-time comedy partner Jennifer Saunders.

French had to kiss Saunders – an experience she described as “lovely” – as part of a lesbian fantasy in Me and Mamie O’Rourke, a play they featured in together during the mid-1990s.

However, despite admitting that there are some women she finds very attractive, she does not think “she would actually do” anything.

“As far as I know I’m straight,” she said.

“There are a couple of women I think if I really met them, but they’re famous people in America that I think, ‘Oooh I think I would with her!’

“But actually confronted with the real, actual throbbing person, I’m not sure I would.”
