Sam Smith: I got so drunk in an Australian gay bar that I puked in my hand
Sam Smith has opened up about having a tipple too many while on a recent trip to Australia.
The 25-year-old singing sensation has released five number-one singles and two number-one albums – including The Thrill of It All, which recently went platinum – made the most of Sydney’s gay bars.
The British pop star admitted to drinking so much while holidaying in Australia that he ended up throwing up.
Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon he confessed: “Oh my god, I had some mad nights in some gay bars in Sydney…”
He continued: “I had one really bad night where I, like, puked at the bar because I was so drunk.
“I did a shot of tequila and then I just puked in my hand.”
It seems he wasn’t put off by the experience, however, laughing as he added: “That was a great night!”
It was little surprise, then, that when he was asked what he’s like on holiday the Stay With Me singer explained: “I drink a lot of alcohol. And then get very burnt in the sun because I don’t tan.”
Sam recently opened up about being in a relationship with 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn.
The pair were photographed hanging out in Sydney, months into their new relationship.
But the British star has revealed that it is his relationship with Flynn, 24, which has turned around his opinion of himself.
He was unlucky in love throughout writing his new album but was photographed kissing his new partner in New York City in October, shortly before its release.
“On a personal level, I’m in a relationship right now and for the first time, I think I deserve to be happy,” the singer told film star Sarah Jessica Parker.
“I’m actually asking myself if I’m going to be writing some happy love songs soon.”
Smith also claimed that he wasn’t a “proper” gay man when he released In the Lonely Hour in 2014.
“In the past few years, I became a gay man properly,” said the star.
“When I wrote that first album, I was in love with a straight man, he didn’t love me back, and I was very comfortable in my longing.
“With this record, I became a gay man. I’m just figuring out what it means to be gay.”
