Star Wars’ Oscar Isaac has ‘fully endorsed’ Finn and Poe getting together
Oscar Isaac has “fully endorsed” the popular fan theory that Star Wars characters Finn and Poe will be together in the end.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi failed to fulfil fans’ wishes of a romance between renegade Resistance pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and ex-stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega).
Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran – whose character Rose Tico kisses Finn in the film – both lent their support to the ship last year.
But now fans have an endorsement from one of the two actors involved, all thanks to Madeline, a bisexual 16-year-old from New York.
The teenager saw that Isaac would be appearing on WABC’s Live With Kelly and Ryan, just 40 minutes away from her home, according to BuzzFeed.
So, like the true fandom hero she is, she took a sign saying “FINNPOE IS ENDGAME” and waited outside.
“There were two others outside waiting who said they saw him go in but security was being really strict and so I was a bit discouraged,” she said.
“But luckily once he knew fans were waiting he came outside with no security and couldn’t have been nicer.”
When Isaac saw the sign, Madeline said “he chuckled and said: ‘Nice.'”
She asked him if he would sign it, therefore endorsing the theory.
He went on step further, signing the poster before saying “fully endorsed” out loud as he wrote and underlined the words.
“To me, that’s the best part,” Madeline said. “He didn’t need to write that; he just recognises what the pairing means to people.”
She pointed out on Twitter that Rian Johnson – who directed The Last Jedi – had liked a tweet linking to an article about her brave actions.
It’s official: the best and brightest stars involved with the franchise know about and approve of FinnPoe.
Posting a photo of her with Isaac and the sign on Twitter, Madeline said: “Today, I peaked.”
Later, after a tidal wave of appreciation, she wrote: “GUYS I AM SO SORRY I CAN’T REPLY TO EVERYONE BUT THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH IT’S MY PLEASURE AND HONOR TO BE YOUR WARRIOR”.
The teenager added: “I am still shaking in my boots”.
Madeline explained what it meant to her personally, saying: “I’m a humongous Star Wars fan, always have been. My father introduced it to me when I was little because he’s a fanatic as well.
“When The Force Awakens came out, I fell in love with the new characters and adopted FinnPoe as one of my favorite ships.
“I’d love to see them become canon because it’s just natural.”
The 16-year-old added: “Finn flirts with Rey in the first movie quite a bit. I’m bisexual, and it would mean a great deal to me to see a bisexual character portrayed onscreen.”
Several TV shows have increased their bisexual representation over the past year.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, The Crown, Brooklyn 99 and Riverdale have all revealed a bisexual character.
However, despite the occasional nod to bisexuality – like in the upcoming Deadpool sequel, or Thor: Ragnarok – representation is still lacking in major Hollywood films.
Madeline said she loved the fact that her endeavours were making people happy.
“I’ve seen people texting their families about it, sneaking online at work to check out the story,” she said.
“I know what it means to people, and it makes me so freaking ecstatic that I was able to bring people a little slice of joy.”
