McDonalds turns M sign into a W – all for International Women’s Day, apparently
One McDonalds in the US has made the headlines for turning its Golden Arches upside down – in celebration of International Women’s Day.
Those driving by the McDonald’s Golden Arches in Lynwood, California, might have been a little bit confused by the fact that the M that marked a shop of one of the world’s largest food chains had flipped upside down.
The W, which sat proudly above the store, apparently had not been taken by a gust of wind nor was an act of deplorable vandalism – it was an act of feminism.
And it appears that the fast-food chain is turning all of its M’s upside down for the celebrations – but the rest of the stores are taking the easier route and doing it digitally.
“In celebration of women everywhere, and for the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women’s Day in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere and especially in our restaurants,” said McDonald’s global chief diversity officer, Wendy Lewis, said in a statement to Business Insider.
But as you can imagine, the rest of the Twittersphere were not taken with the brand’s act of feminism.
McDonalds workers went on the first ever strike in the UK in September 2017.
According to the The Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union, the fast-food chain has been one of the biggest users of zero-hours contracts in Britain.
So, in short? McDonalds, go home, you’re drunk.
