‘Unqualified lesbian’ t-shirt created in support of Cynthia Nixon
The revolution will be televised through political t-shirts.
Just think about it. The Corbynista wave came in through that Nike swoosh tick was seen on every hotbod in Hoxton, and the Nasty Woman t-shirts that offered proceeds to Planned Parenthood were worn with pride by feminists challenging Trump’s dire women’s rights agenda.
And now, as Cynthia Nixon runs to become the next governor of New York, a new t-shirt has arisen, reading one pertinent message: “Unqualified Lesbian“.
The t-shirt, which was said to have been created shortly after former mayoral candidate Christine Quinn, offensively called Cynthia exactly that, is now available to purchase online on Teespring for $19.99.
Nixon, who has faced an onslaught of criticism for running for the role, has thrown off the haters with a series of witty ripostes.
“And I just want to say tonight that she was technically right. I don’t have my certificate from the Department of Lesbian Affairs,” Nixon retorted at a campaign event at the Stonewall Inn.
“But in my defense, there is a lot of paperwork involved.”
The Victory Fund, which provides backing and support for LGBT+ leaders, said that Nixon is welcome to apply to them for support.
“LGBTQ people – and especially LGBTQ women – are severely underrepresented at every level of government,” said Elliot Imse, Director of Communications for LGBTQ Victory Fund.
“This year we have an unprecedented number of LGBTQ people running for governor and other statewide positions – with the potential to dramatically increase the number of LGBTQ governors in the United States.

“Cynthia Nixon is an intelligent, capable woman and a committed voice for our community, but she has not yet applied for our endorsement. If she applies, we will analyze her viability, campaign plan and issue positions to make a decision on her endorsement.”
And of course, Nixon is far from the first celebrity to run for office.
Skirting past Donald Trump for a few minutes, we can also note that Ronald Reagan served as US President.
The Republican party candidate and Hollywood actor served two terms in the White House.
