It’s official, everyone: Spider-Man is bisexual.
At least, that’s according to a fan who went viral after spotting that Tom Holland’s superhero had portrayed a bisexual meme in Avengers: Infinity War.
Last year, the concept spread across the internet that, in its own words, “cuffing ur jeans and tucking in baggy shirts is bisexual culture.”

And as it turns out, during the web-slinging teenager’s first scene in the record-breaking blockbuster, he proudly shows off his cuffed jeans while hanging off the side of a schoolbus.
One eagle-eyed viewer spotted the fashion choice, tweeting that “peter cuffs his jeans yall know what this means.”
Another fan saw this and went one better, creating a beautiful piece of songwriting to go along with the picture.

To the tune of the classic Spider-Man theme song – which was also popularised by the 2007 Simpsons Movie – Twitter user gren wrote: “BI-DERMAN / BI-DERMAN / DOES WHATEVER A BI-DER CAN.
“KISS A MAN? / SURE WHY NOT / ALSO HE THINKS GIRLS ARE HOT / LOOK OUT / HERE COMES THE BI-DER MAN.”
Utter, glorious genius.

To be fair, Marvel films don’t have many LGBT superheroes to look up to.
Unlike 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool series, which now includes a kick-ass lesbian couple, the pansexual Deadpool and Shatterstar, a bisexual, polyamorous superhero, Marvel has been reticent to feature any LGBT characters.
Marvel has attracted criticism for its extreme reluctance to include LGBT people in its films.

A scene in Thor: Ragnarok confirming that superhero Valkyrie was bisexual was shot, but mysteriously edited out.
The Black Panther comics have depicted a lesbian relationship between warriors Ayo and Aneka – but a scene hinting at the romance was dumped from Ryan Coogler’s 2018 film adaptation.
And Star Wars execs are more than happy to encourage queer fans’ speculation about a romance between fan favourites Finn and Poe – while they rush to introduce heterosexual love interests.

So it makes sense that LGBT Marvel fans would use their boundless creativity to create an icon who can fill the gap.
