Deadpool 2 star Ryan Reynolds has asked a man to marry him
Ryan Reynolds has proposed to a man.
The Deadpool 2 star, who is married to Blake Lively, popped the question on the red carpet for his new film.
Reynolds plays the pansexual main character in the film, which also features a same-sex couple in the shape of Brianna Hildebrand’s moody teenage mutant Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her new girlfriend, Shioli Kutsuna’s badass hero Yukio.
It also includes a bisexual, polyamorous superhero in the shape of Shatterstar, who has appeared in Marvel comics since 1991.
Ahead of the film’s release, Reynolds talked to a reporter from entertainment news site IGN, Max Scoville – but this was no regular red carpet interview.
Scoville, as it turned out, had been building up to this moment for most of his life.
“I’ve been a Deadpool fan since I was a little kid. Here’s my fifth-grade English book report,” he added, handing the actual report to Reynolds.
“Can you take a look at that? I got a B- on that.”
The actor, stunned, responded: “You did a fifth-grade book report on Deadpool. This is amazing.
“This is amazing,” he repeated.
Scoville told him the feeling was mutual, saying: “No man, your movies are amazing.
“You did the thing that I’d wanted to see since I was 10.”
But Reynolds would not give in to flattery, telling him firmly: “Max, you did a book report on Deadpool in the fifth grade.
“Will you marry me?”
The reporter replied: “I think I’m spoken for,” while his fellow journalist revealed that Scoville had just got engaged.
The Canadian actor wasn’t going to be put off that easily.
“Great,” said Reynolds. “We’ll move to a state that allows it.”
The star has been outrageous, hilarious and a surprisingly good dancer all in the name of promoting his new film.
Earlier this month, he dressed as Deadpool to complain – with some justification – that Canada wasn’t allowed to participate in Eurovision when “you let in Australia, and they’re barely on the planet.”
He also danced in heels alongside Celine Dion to advertise the film, elegantly twirling around her with sleek and sexy moves – all while sporting stilettos.
And earlier this month, during a promotional tour of South Korea, Reynolds went on King of Mask Singer, a televised singing competition in which contestants where masks to hide their identity and appearance.
Keeping himself hidden behind a rainbow unicorn mask and a rainbow-lined cloak, the actor – who made headlines in 2017 by kissing Andrew Garfield during the Golden Globes – belted out “Tomorrow” to cheers and applause.
