Toyah Wilcox and Katrina from Katrina and the Waves to headline world’s biggest lesbian festival
Toyah Wilcox and Katrina and the Waves will be headlining “the world’s biggest lesbian festival” in July.
L Fest, which takes place in Llandudno, north Wales, is going back to the Eighties to provide entertainment for its queer female audience.
“ONE MONTH TO GOOOOO and we have something to shout about, we are sooo excited at HQ. Here are our headliners for L Fest 2018 and as we know how so many of you love your 80’s, we have not one but two GLOBAL 80’s ICONS for you!” wrote L Fest on its Facebook page.
The festival, which is still in its first year of existence, has already earned a reputation in the community as one of the friendliest festivals going.
Organisers are striving for inclusion in order to make it as a festival that is accessible for all.
“Every year we asked for feedback on our events. Many people had asked for more ‘fields and festival vibe’ when we were at Uttoxeter so we tried it with a move to Loughborough in 2017,” Director Cindy Edwards told the Daily Post.
“But we were very unfortunate with the weather which meant the site was not suitable for many L Festers who are not seasoned campers or needed extra accessible features.
“So when we asked for suggestions for the 2018 event and we were told about Bodafon Farm, we fell in love – with the fields, barns, the sea and most important….static clean toilets!
“The location is perfect for our event. Bodafon farm is ideal, but also the whole town lends itself to being a place our festival goers will visit time and time again.”
The festival also encourages lesbians who are going to the festival alone to attend the festival.
As part of the solos group, likeminded lesbians can meet and “join in the fun.”
“It’s not about dating, but if you happen to meet someone special that’s just a bonus! We have already had a number of relationships start at L Fest and we are looking for a good excuse to buy a hat,” the festival page jokes.
Katrina’s former group Katrina and the Waves are still the last UK act to win Eurovision, with “Love Shine a Light” in 1997.
Katrina, who identifies as a lesbian, has repped several LGBT+ events.
