Colorado Republicans called Jewish gay candidate a Nazi militia ‘brown shirt’
Colorado Republicans called a gay, Jewish politician a “brown shirt” in a social media post, a term used to describe Nazi officials.
The Jefferson County Republican Party referred to Jared Polis, the Democratic nominee for governor of Colorado, as a “brown shirt” in a Facebook post which was later removed.
“Jared Polis has a new club ‘How to be a brown shirt for fun & profit,’” the post read.
The term refers to the uniforms worn by members of the Sturmabteilung, the original paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party which played a major role in Hitler’s rise to power.
The group also shared an article about Polis’ personal wealth which featured the politician wearing a brown shirt.
This is not the first time the Jefferson County Republicans have used Nazi references to describe Democrats.
Earlier this year, county party chair Joe Webb made a Nazi reference when talking about Representative Maxine Waters.
“Things work out for the best when we disagree with each other respectfully,” he wrote, according to the Colorado Times Recorder.
“The Nazis example should teach Dems like Maxine Waters one thing. Today’s button pushers can become tomorrow’s targets.
“The Brown Shirts (SA) harassed others until Hitler did away with them in the Night of the Long Knives.
“When one group is unsafe then no one is safe. We should not tolerate this sort of behaviour in America.”
In July, Colorado State Representative Tim Leonard referred to Women’s March demonstrators as “brown shirts.”
In a Facebook post, he described protesters who opposed Donald Trump’s administration as “insane and incoherent” and “so angry they can’t even think straight.”
He wrote: “I usually like to avoid national politics, but the insanity and incoherency of the “Women’s March” radicals has to be pitied.
“They are so angry, they cannot even think straight. They could care less who the Supreme Court nominee is, they resist everything everywhere all the time from this President.
“Who can even take them seriously? They have nothing to offer to any logical discussion of ideas. They are in the political arena just to cause chaos — like Hitler’s Brownshirts.”
