When is the A Star is Born soundtrack coming out?
If you’ve been watching the trailer for A Star is Born on repeat because you love the song featured, I have good news.
The soundtrack to the movie will be released by Interscope Records next month to coincide with the hotly anticipated movie.
The album will feature original songs by Lady Gaga and co-star/director Bradley Cooper.
When is the A Star is Born soundtrack released?
The soundtrack is released on October 5, two days after the movie is released.
Are the songs new?
The soundtrack features songs by Lady Gaga (duh) and Bradley Cooper (yes, he does his own singing and is quite good at it, too). It’s a happy mix of country power ballads and pop songs that should please even the harshest critics.
In total, the track listing “features 19 songs in a wide range of musical styles + 15 dialogue tracks that will take you on a journey that mirrors the experience of seeing the film,” according to Interscope.
“The music stands up, movie or no movie,” noted Billboard. “They are timeless, emotional, gritty and earnest. They sound like songs written by artists who, quite frankly, are supremely messed up but hit to the core of the listener.”
Gaga and Cooper collaborated with Jason Isbell, Mark Ronson, Diane Warren and Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow to birth the soundtrack, as well as country musician Lukas Nelson (who also appears in the movie as one of Cooper’s band members).
The recording process
Back in May 2017, Cooper told Ellen DeGeneres that he had discovered how hard singing was and had “such great respect for singers,” following the recording of the A Star is Born soundtrack.
“It’s ridiculous ’cause of course you should [know how hard singing is], but I have really been awaken to the phenomenon of singing,” he told the host.
Discussing their songwriting inspirations for the movie, Cooper told Fandango that the music was so important to A Star is Born that it was “a character in the movie.”
The director revealed some songs had been written before filming and some other songs that were written during filming.
“It was a synergy […] we were constantly working in the studio, and the script was being worked on at the same time,” Gaga said.
“It was so exciting for me, watching him become a musician,” she added, talking about her co-star.
