Riverdale’s Madelaine Petsch says her character is ‘definitely’ a lesbian

Actor Madelaine Petsch has said her Riverdale character Cheryl Blossom is a lesbian, having previously said that she is bisexual.
In a recent Q&A on her YouTube channel, Petsch said: “I’ve actually been talking to Roberto [showrunner] about it a lot and I think we’ve kind of figured out that Cheryl is a lesbian.
“This is definitely who she is as a person.”

Petsch’s character Cheryl got together with bisexual Toni Topaz towards the end of season two of the hit Netflix show.
Cheryl is consequently sent to have gay “conversion” therapy, but is broken out of the centre by Toni.

In another fan Q&A in March, Petsch had said her character was bisexual.
“She’s still figuring out what her sexuality is,” Petsch said at the time.
“Cheryl is definitely interested in both women and men, so I would say she is bisexual. I think you’re going to see a lot more of her figuring out who she is.”

Riverdale features multiple LGBT+ storylines
Riverdale has been praised for its LGBT+ storylines.
In season three, Archie Andrews shares a gay kiss with fellow inmate Joaquin DeSantos, which left fans speculating about the former’s sexuality.
The final of season two saw Kevin Keller and Moose Mason kiss passionately in the school bathroom.
The pair start dating in season three, although actor Casey Cott, who plays Kevin, admitted that the relationship is strained because Moose is not out.
Cott told TVLine: “We are dating in season three.
“So it’s fun to start off with that and explore that with Moose. It’ll be fun.
“I had my first kissing scene of the season, and it was in the hallway at school,” he added, alluding to the fact that the cast has already shot one episode of the new season.
However, he continued: “He pushes me off because he’s still closeted, but it’s still a kiss, and it goes well… It’s a complicated relationship.”
The showrunner of Riverdale, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, is also the writer for Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which stars a non-binary character.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was released on October 26, featuring pansexual warlock Ambrose Spellman alongside Sabrina’s friend Susie Putnam, played by non-binary actor Lachlan Watson.
