Gay couple stabbed and beaten as ‘neighbours do nothing’

A gay couple has been beaten and stabbed in front of their Las Vegas home—as their neighbours reportedly stood by, watched and did nothing.
Charles Clements and his boyfriend Vincent were attacked on Thursday (November 29) by two men who used glass shards to repeatedly stab them, leaving both of them in hospital and Vincent with two broken ribs and a punctured lung, according to local TV station KVVU-TV.
Vincent, who wrote on Facebook that he was stabbed seven times in the back during the incident, was released from Las Vegas’s University Medical Centre on Friday night after what Clements said was a hate crime.

He remembered how, after he picked up his partner from work at Walmart and brought him home, he was just about to unlock the door to their home when he heard someone shouting.
“The next thing I hear, he’s calling my name,” said Clements. “I come back, I see my boyfriend fighting with the guys.”

Vincent and his attacker crashed into a glass table on the front porch of their home, at which point Clements said “there was a lot of glass on the floor, so the guy came around and picked up the glass.
“I was like: ‘Don’t do that.’ And then he started stabbing my boyfriend in the back, so I just pushed him away so he would stop doing it.
“The guy was kicking him in his ribs.”
Clements was hit in the head with a piece of glass, he said, recalling: “I was just leaking blood onto my jacket.”

He added that “neighbours and everybody were just looking. Nobody called the police.
“I’ve never been through nothing like this in my life,” he continued, tearing up. “I was so scared.”
The two men drove away following the attack, which police are investigating.
Vincent told Las Vegas authorities that he recognised one of the assailants as his colleague at Walmart.
“It was all about gay bashing,” said Clements. “The guy came to my boyfriend’s job, called him an abomination, called him a fag.”
Clements added that the attack had traumatised him, explaining: “I don’t even want to be in this apartment no more because I’m afraid they’re going to come back.”
His uncle, Anthony Dillon, said he was helping the pair to find a new place to live.
