Others proclaimed the kiss a great start to 20BiTeen, while some pointed out the 20-second clip includes the LGBT+ representation they had wanted in Black Panther itself.
Fans had hoped 2018 Marvel superhero film Black Panther would adapt a lesbian romance from the World of Wakanda comic books featuring female warriors Ayo and Aneka.
It was reported that early cuts of the film paid tribute to the storyline by featuring flirtations between Ayo (Florence Kasumba) and Okoye (Danai Gurira), however the scene ended up on the cutting room floor.
Black Panther stars spoke about scrapped plans for lesbian storyline
Kasumba previously confirmed to Vulture that a scene referencing her character’s sexuality had been abandoned.
She said: “The thing is, if the makers would have wanted everyone to see the scene, it would have been in the movie.
“The final result that we’ve seen, there were a few scenes that have been cut. Different scenes, also.
“They didn’t make it into the movie for certain reasons, and at that point, I have to say: What their reason is, I can’t tell you, because nobody told me about whether it’s in or not.”
Black Panther co-writer Joe Robert Cole later opened up to ScreenCrush about why the lesbian storyline was ditched.
He admitted the writers considered making Ayo and Okoye a couple, adding: “I think the short answer is yes. I know that there were quite a few conversations around different things, different directions with different characters, and characters that we may have.
“We thought, ‘Well, maybe we’ll work it this way with an arc or work it that way with an arc.’”
However, Cole was less forthcoming about the scene that was reportedly filmed but cut.
He said: “The scene you’re talking about, I don’t remember.
“I can’t remember the exact exchange you’re talking about, but I think it was really brief. I’m not sure.
“I know that it was not – there wasn’t some major theme through that we were looking to explore with that in terms of the story.”
A separate deleted scene was included on the film’s DVD release that revealed Okoye is married to W’Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya).
The scene shows the couple having a dispute about their conflicting loyalties.
