Theresa May tweeted about RuPaul’s Drag Race and people can’t handle it

British Prime Minister Theresa May leaves 10 Downing Street to attend the weekly Prime Ministers Questions on January 9, 2019 in London, England.

With just 29 days until Brexit, UK Prime Minister Theresa May has baffled everyone by tweeting about RuPaul’s Drag Race.

May was responding to a story in the Colchester Gazette, which revealed the Prime Minister had gifted a signed photo of herself to a charity auction run by drag queen Amber Dextris.

The drag queen, real name Ben Tye, is raising funds for the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society as part of the Miss Drag UK pageant.

Theresa May: I haven’t had a chance to catch up on Drag Race

In response to the story, the PM’s official account tweeted: “Must admit I haven’t had a chance to catch up on @RuPaulsDragRace, but wishing Ben all the best in raising money for a great cause @SandsUK.”

The message has caused mass confusion on Twitter, where some wondered: “What the f**k is going on?”.

One user quipped: “Theresa, on the runway you were indeed strong and stable. But in the Brexit Challenge, you were Tory-ble.”

Another joked: “Oh, PinkNews really gonna make you ally of the decade for this one.”

Others speculated on which Drag Race contestants May would have supported, with one fan writing: “My bet is she stopped in protest when Katya didn’t win S7.”

Drag Race fans do not want a Theresa May guest appearance

Some Drag Race fans feared that RuPaul would take the opportunity to make Theresa May a guest judge on Drag Race UK, which is launching later this year.

One wrote: “If Theresa May guest judges on Drag Race, RuPaul is cancelled, Michelle Visage is cancelled, VH1 is cancelled, America is cancelled, drag itself is CANCELLED.”

Former Drag Race contestant Aquaria wrote: “Honestly thanks for the support but no thanks. Get your policies together and then feel comfortable enjoying our art. Mess.”

She wouldn’t be the first politician to do so, however, as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi appeared as a guest judge on Drag Race All Stars in 2018.

A number of British MPs have already spoken about their wish to appear on Drag Race UK when it airs.

Out Labour MP Wes Streeting has spoken of his hopes of appearing on the show in drag as ‘Eileen Toodaleft,’ while the Scottish National Party’s Stewart McDonald hopes to appear as ‘Diva Lution.’

Streeting told the Evening Standard earlier this month: “I’ve written to Ru in the hope that we can enjoy a different Queen’s Speech in the Palace of Westminster.”

The full line-up of contestants and guest stars for Drag Race UK is yet to be revealed, though Graham Norton and Alan Carr have been confirmed for slots as judges.

Theresa May has previously inspired her own drag tribute.
