It wasn’t just John Travolta… Gigi Hadid also mistook a drag queen for Taylor Swift
In the gift that keeps giving, Gigi Hadid also confused drag queen Jade Jolie for Taylor Swift during the MTV Video Music Awards this week.
John Travolta stumbled back into blubbery when he mistook Jolie for Swift and tried to present the RuPaul’s Drag Race star with the video of the year accolade for ‘You Need To Calm Down’.
But in an interview with New Now Next, Jolie revealed that Swift’s pal, model Gigi Hadid, ended up pulling the same gaff as Travolta.
“At the after-party Gigi Hadid kept thinking I was Taylor; they’re really good friends,” Jade said.
“The drunker we got, I guess the more Taylor I became for everyone!”
Moreover, there are no hard feelings between them. As she added: “It was a very sweet and flattering mistake. And I like to think I did my job right and looked just like Taylor.”
Jade Jolie: “I kinda giggled about it.”
She also said that Taylor herself thought the moment was funny.
“After everything was said and done I kinda giggled about it and people were posting it online,” she explained.
“We told Taylor, and she was tickled and thought it was so funny. She joked and was like, ‘You totally should have went for it!'”
The revelation comes just after Travolta joked the exact same. Saying it would have been “awesome” if he actually did hand over the award to Jolie.
”There’s so many people that bombarded the stage, that I was looking for [Swift],” Travolta told Dallas-Fort Worth radio station Hot 93.
”So the video has me trying to find her, and you know, I thought it was so funny the way it was interpreted.
”And it’s cool, I didn’t care.
”Sometimes I fantasise, what if I had given it to [Jolie]? That would have been awesome.
“I should have just gone all the way with it.”
Swift was shimmying up the stage to collect her award for LGBT-themed clip, ‘You Need To Calm Down’, when the flub happened.
As a gaggle of drag queens who starred in the video clacked onto the stage in their heels, cameras caught Travolta as he manoeuvred up to Jolie and tried to hand her the moon man trophy.
Thankfully, Jolie laughed it off and hugged the Pulp Fiction actor to defuse the situation. But her co-star Tatianna looked on, comically stunned.
All the while Swift made her way to the stage, she was then joined by Todrick Hall and queens including Akeria C Davenport and Trinity The Tuck.
