Sam Smith wears heels for the first time at an awards show
British singer Sam Smith, who came out as non-binary in March this year, said “it felt so good” to wear heels to an awards show for the first time.
The ‘Too Good at Goodbyes’ singer wore the Gucci heels on 4 September to the GQ Men of the Year awards.
“Tonight I wore heels for the first time to an award show,” Smith wrote in an Instagram post.
“I’ve just got home from a gorgeous evening and as I was walking to my front door I stopped and listened to my heels clonking against the floor. And I just thought ‘FUCK YES’!!
“There was a time where I thought I’d never ever ever be able to be myself like this in front of the industry or anyone. It feels so good and I just wanted to share that with you all, and share a picture of my GORJ Gucci heels.
“They’ll always be my virgin heels.”
Smith walked the red carpet wearing a tuxedo with a sheer black lace top underneath.
His heels were Gucci mid-calf patent leather boots with an almost three-inch heel.
The Oscar-winning singer-songwriter also took non-binary journalist Tom Glitter as his guest to the awards.
“I also brought along the absolutely iconic and sensational Tom Glitter who has been a fucking beacon for me over the past year because of their book Diary of a Drag Queen!!” Smith said.
“You’re an angel amongst humans Tom.”
