Azealia Banks lashes out at ‘evil’ Frank Ocean and PrEP users in ignorant rant about anal sex
Azealia Banks has lashed out at people who use HIV-preventing PrEP drugs.
The former rapper, who has not released an album in five years, decided to vent on Instagram after Frank Ocean launched a club night in honour of pre-exposure prophylaxis drugs, which are recommended for use by at-risk gay men and can be taken daily to prevent HIV.
Azealia Banks rants about HIV-preventing PrEP drugs.
On her Instagram story, she said: “Do not take that PrEP s**t. There’s no reason you need to have a f**king pill so you can just f**k whoever you wanna f**k and just be all kinds of nasty out there on the streets acting a f**king fool.
“The boys are still getting HIV. The girls are getting renal failure. They’re getting liver fucking failure, they’re getting anal warts, they’re getting anal cancer, OK? That’s a fucking death trap.
“And for that dumbass n***a Frank Ocean to sit up there and fucking promote that to y’all gays like that’s something that y’all need? It’s evil, and he’s probably getting paid by some white gay corporation to do this s**t.”
She added: “Y’all stay off that f**king PrEP. You don’t need to have everybody running up in your f**king a**hole all day.
“If you got a sex addiction like that, that you need a f**king pill so you can go f**k and suck and do all that, then you need to go see a f**king psychiatrist.”
‘Ignorant and homophobic’ comments under fire.
Critics pointed out that “just don’t have gay sex” is not a particularly new, revolutionary or effective response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Years & Years singer Olly Alexander tweeted: “Pls don’t listen to azealia banks talk about prep if you want some information i highly recommend @TeamPrepster and this page here
“we absolutely won’t be listening to any mis-information or shaming of people taking prep!
“there are lots of reasons why somebody might choose to take prep. we want people to have access to health care and to feel empowered to make the choices right for them.
“this issue is extremely complex and touches on our collective history as queer people and our relationship to HIV
“i ask for people to be a little thoughtful before they start labeling people on prep as – in azealia’s case, just whores who want it raw. it’s homophobic and actually it does not concern you in the slightest.”
Banks, who previously said she identifies as bisexual, was banned from Twitter in 2016 after referring to One Direction singer Zayn Malik as a “faggot”, a “sand n***a”, a “d**k rider” and a “p**i”.
