Karamo Brown’s son was sent death threats over Sean Spicer ‘friendship’

Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown said his son was sent death threats in response to his own comments about fellow Dancing With the Stars contestant Sean Spicer.

Brown came under heavy criticism after saying he was “excited to sit down… and engage in a respectful conversation” with the former White House press secretary.

“Only way things get better is if we try to educate those who have different [points of view] than us,” he tweeted in August.

His words caused a fierce backlash among liberals, “the worst moment” of which Brown said came when his son received death threats.

“The minute that my son started getting death threats was the worst moment for me because a lot of it wasn’t coming from the other side, it was coming from my own side,” he told BuzzFeed’s AM To DM on Wednesday, November 6.

I never thought that people would look at me, and think as a black, gay man living in America, that I was part of the enemy.

“It hurt my heart — I’m kind of getting emotional now — because I just never thought in my heart that people would look at me, and think as a black, gay man living in America, that I was somehow part of the enemy.”

Throughout his time on Dancing With The Stars, Karamo Brown attempted to strike a congenial tone with Spicer, refuting claims he was helping to rehabilitate the Republican’s image.

In August he described Spicer as “a good guy” and “really sweet”. After Brown exited DWTS in October, he said that he had hoped to “plant seeds” of kindness in his heart.

“Sean is literally someone who I would’ve never thought I could be friends with, and I’m going to walk away from here calling him a friend,” he told People.

But appearing on Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday (November 6), Brown said that “there was no friendship”.

“I was just saying that, if we’re going to be on the same show, I’m going to have a respectful conversation with someone who’s different from me,” he said.

“People were like, ‘How dare you? Oh my gosh.’ And I was like, if you’ve never seen me on television, I’m always going to be the person to build a bridge.”
