The real winner of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, this and every year, is Australian comedian and gay icon Julia Morris.
Caitlyn Jenner, Nadine Coyle, Adele Roberts and a bunch of straight celebrities are currently vying to be crowned king or queen of the ITV jungle.
But to be honest, whatever’s going on in the Australian bush right now is irrelevant unless it involves Julia Morris.
The comedian hosts the Australian version of I’m a Celebrity, where she elevates the format from “has-beens forced to cohabit with spiders” to genuine high art.
Take, for example, the below video, viewed more than four million times, in which Morris introduces herself as “Kylie Minogue’s body double,” “bikini girl and MENSA member, “super shy but pushing through it” and “a Mardi Gras wrapped in some sort of fabulous frock scenario”.

Morris’ camp humour is like catnip to LGBT+ fans, who have called for her to “present not only our version of I’m A Celeb, but also every programme ever made”.
Better still, the presenter has proven herself to be a true queer ally, having fronted a campaign for same-sex marriage back in 2015.

Morris has hosted I’m a Celebrity Australia (which is actually filmed in South Africa) since 2015, opposite the similarly noteworthy Chris Brown.

The pair also host a local version of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, while Morris has also fronted Australia’s Got Talent in the past.
British fans have long campaigned for Morris to join the UK version of I’m a Celebrity, and almost got their wish in 2018 when Ant McPartlin skipped a season during his recover from addiction.
At the time, Morris said she’d “take the job in a heartbeat” if offered.
“I am a huge fan of the show and lived in the UK for seven years,” she told Good Morning Britain.
“When I came home to Australia and heard they were doing an Australian version, I went lock, stock and two very smoking barrels to get that job because it always looked like the boys were having so much fun. So I was lucky enough to land it.”
