It took just two days but James Charles has already caused his first scandal of 2020
If James Charles’ New Year’s resolution was to be controversy-free for 2020, it took him just 24 hours to fail it.
Piping hot scandal from Charles in under a day or your money back.
This time around, Twitter users are organising a #JamesCharlesIsOverParty after the make-up guru uploaded a video of him singing along to Saweetie’s ‘My Type’, which includes several uses of the N-word, on January 1.
So, what’s James Charles been accused of this time?
Charles was immediately caught in a crossfire of criticism, as people accused the 20-year-old of belting out the racist term.

It’s safe to say that, for the most part, a number of people weren’t particularly surprised by this given Charles’ track record of *checks notes* joking about catching the ebola virus during a trip to “Africa”:

Imagine how tired we are. Maybe hibernation isn’t a bad idea.
However, the cancel party divided Twitter, as users also defended the YouTuber:

‘How stupid would I have to be to confidently record a video of me singing the N-word and still have it up the next morning?’
As backlash bubbled, Charles eventually took to Twitter to address his first scandal of the new decade.
After someone directly questioned him whether he said the phrase, he flatly denied the accusation and replied: “No?”
“Turn up the volume and listen,” he explained, “I skip over it.

While users wondered when the next #JamesCharlesIsOverParty will be, some noted other internet influencers have not faced similar condemnation for their actions:

And others brought up that while the world debates whether or not Charles said the N-world, a part of the world is literally a burning hellscape and maybe we should talk about that:
