Trump ‘had Mar-a-Lago fumigated’ after visit by man dying from AIDS-related illness
Donald Trump got his luxury Mar-a-Lago club fumigated after a visit from Republican fixer Roy Cohn because he had HIV/AIDS, a new book claims.
The claim comes from new book The Fixers, which looks into the relationship between Trump and and Cohn, a Republican operative who served as the future leader’s lawyer and political mentor.
Donald Trump said he ‘spent a fortune’ fumigating Mar-a-Lago after Roy Cohn visit.
Roy Cohn, who was publicly homophobic and fomented public persecution against gay people, is now widely believed to have himself been a gay man – and died at the age of 49 from AIDS-related complications in 1986.
Trump had “distanced himself” from Cohn after he fell ill, but invited him to “a farewell dinner” at Mar-a-Lago shortly before his death, according to the book.
The book claims that Trump would later recall Cohn’s visit to guests at Mar-a-Lago in 2016, joking: “I had to spend a fortune to fumigate all the dishes and silverware.”
In an extract published in the Wall Street Journal, authors Joe Palazzolo and Michael Rothfeld wrote of Trump’s first fixer: “Cohn manipulated the media and the legal system to secure business advantages for Mr Trump.
“He cast his client as a fabulously successful developer who transformed his father’s collection of low-end apartment buildings in Brooklyn and Queens into a Manhattan-based empire of luxury condominium towers.
“Mr Trump’s views of media and celebrity were shaped by Cohn and his successors, the men he relied on to project a particular version of himself – one that often bore little resemblance to reality.
“Their careers with Mr Trump shed light on his rise in public life and his victory in the 2016 presidential election.”
The president has cracked horrible jokes about HIV/AIDS before.
It would not be the first or last offensive joke about HIV/AIDS Donald Trump would crack.
In 2017, recordings emerged of president Trump joking about forcing Princess Diana to take an HIV test before having sex with her.
Trump made the horrifying comments shortly after Princess Diana’s death in 1997, in a radio interview with shock jock Howard Stern.
Stern told him: “You could’ve gotten her, right? You could’ve nailed her.”
Trump replied: “I think I could have.”
Trump and Stern then joked about forcing the deceased Princess to take an HIV test before having sex with her, with Trump quipping: “Come back over to my Lexington Avenue doctor. We wanna give you a little checkup.”
