Donald Trump arrived at a rally to the Village People’s Macho Man, to the confusion of pretty much everyone
Donald Trump arrived at a rally to the “Macho Man” by the Village People, to the utter confusion of pretty much everyone.
The song played at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, India, as the US president arrived to address the crowds alongside the country’s Hindu nationalist prime minister Narendra Modi.
The song includes the lyrics: “Every man wants to be a macho macho man/To have the kind of body, always in demand/Jogging in the mornings, go man go/Works out in the health spa, muscles glow/You can best believe that, he’s a macho man.”
It wasn’t immediately clear who picked a gay anthem to be the soundtrack as Trump, the most heterosexual man in recorded history, arrived – and much of the press pack was utterly baffled.
People are extremely confused about Donald Trump and the Village People.
New York Times correspondent Maria Abi-Habib tweeted: “I never thought I’d be listening to ‘Macho Macho man’ in Gujarat, let alone with a crowd of 120,000 people anywhere in this world. But this was the song that Trump walked out to.”
Meanwhile, CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller suggested that the song is on “the same music mix tape as at Trump campaign rallies”.

More than 100,000 people were in attendance at the rally, according to reports.
Donald Trump again praises Bollywood films.
Trump told the crowd: “All over the planet people take great joy in watching Bollywood films.”
The leader had raised eyebrows as he prepared for the trip on Friday when he shared a PinkNews report about pioneering gay Bollywood rom-com Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (Extra Careful of Marriage).
Quoting a tweet by British LGBT+ rights activist Peter Tatchell linking to the story, the US president wrote: “Great!”
He has not elaborated on his praise for the Bollywood film, which followed days after he complained about foreign-language films at a rally.
The leader had complained about the victory of acclaimed South Korean film Parasite at the Academy Awards, saying: “And the winner is… a movie from South Korea. What the hell was that all about?
“We’ve got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of that they give them the best movie of the year? Was it good? I don’t know.
“You know I’m looking for… can we get, like, Gone with the Wind back please? Sunset Boulevard… so many great movies.
“The winner is… from South Korea. I thought it was best foreign film, right? Best foreign movie! Did this ever happen before?”
