Homophobic hate group wants Trump to ‘Make the Family Great Again’ by rolling back LGBT+ rights

An anti-LGBT hate group submitted a “Make the Family Great Again” petition to the US state department at its Commission on Unalienable Rights meeting last month.
The Commission on Unalienable Rights, supposedly based on “natural law”, was formed by the Trump administration in July, 2019, to undercut the US government’s existing human rights laws.
US secretary of state Mike Pompeo claimed that the commission was necessary because “international institutions designed and built to protect human rights have drifted from their original mission”, and said it would answer questions like: “How do we know or how do we determine whether that claim that this or that is a human right, is it true, and therefore, ought it to be honoured?”
The group is dominated by officials with anti-LGBT+ views, with seven of the ten members having expressed these views publicly, and when the commission was announced, anti-LGBT activist Brian Brown said it was an “extraordinary opening” to reverse LGBT+ equality.
To help the US state department with its mission to redefine human rights laws, anti-LGBT Catholic hate group the Ruth Institute submitted a petition to the Commission on Unalienable Rights to “Make the Family Great Again”, at a meeting on February 21.
The group believes that gay people can be cured and are “intrinsically disordered”, children raised by same-sex couples are more likely to have learning disabilities, and that being transgender is “crazy” and “a political category”.
The petition, addressed president Donald Trump, read: “You campaigned on the promise to Make America Great Again.
“Your secretary of state, Michael Pompeo, established a Commission on Unalienable Rights to advise his department in its dealings with international organisations.
“We, the undersigned, wish to encourage you, and the secretary of state, to Make the Family Great Again.”
It states that making America “great again” must include declaring that “children need their mother and father”, and called for the US state department and the commission to recognise the following as fundamental human rights:
- The right of every child to a relationship with his or her natural mother and father except for an unavoidable tragedy.
- The right of every person to know the identity of his or her biological parents.
- The right to life from conception to natural death.
- The right of families to educate their own children in their faith tradition and values, without being undermined by the state.
The “Make the Family Great Again” petition was signed by 8,000 people.
Ruth Institute founder Jennifer Roback Morse told Life Site News she was told by the head of the Commission on Unalienable rights that the group was “grateful”.
The commission is currently facing a lawsuit by four human rights groups over the steps it is attempting to take to remove queer people from human rights laws.
