NikkieTutorials reveals more behind-the-scenes embarrassment from her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show
YouTube NikkieTutorials has given more details about her experience of appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss coming out as trans, and it’s not good.
NikkieTutorials, real name Nikkie de Jager, appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’s talkshow in January to speak about the blackmail attempt that forced her to come out as transgender.
The pair shared what seemed like an emotional heart-to-heart on the show, with DeGeneres appearing warm and friendly during the interview.
But the Dutch-born YouTuber later spilled the tea on Dutch TV show De Wereld Draait Door.
Asked about appearing on The Ellen Show, NikkieTutorials replied bluntly: “It’s really nice that you came over and said hello to me… She didn’t.” She added that the show felt like “a whole different world”.
Now, according to Pop Crave, the YouTuber has given more details about her experience in an interview with Dutch magazine &C.
She described the warm and friendly atmosphere on the show as an illusion and said: “Maybe I’m being naive, but I expected them to welcome me with confetti: ‘Welcome to The Ellen DeGeneres Show!’
“But instead I got greeted by an angry intern, who was a bit overworked. I expected a Disney show, but I got a ‘Teletubbies after dark’.”
NikkieTutorials also explained that there was a bizarre toilet rule on set.
She said: “Every guest at Ellen had a private toilet, but I didn’t. I couldn’t even use the closest toilet to me because it was reserved for the Jonas Brothers.
“They were allowed, but I wasn’t… Even though looking back, my interview got eight million views, while theirs only got two million. Ha!”
This week almost 8,000 people signed a petition to have Degeneres replaced with Ellen Page as the host of The Ellen Show, following revelations that the ever-positive talkshow host may not be so nice after all.
Last month, comic Kevin Porter described her as “one of the meanest people alive”, and then encouraged Twitter users to share their “insane stories” about DeGeneres’s, pledging to match each one with a $2 donation to LA Food Bank.
The damning thread hoarded hundreds of unverified stories of the daytime talk show host’s behaviour claimed by apparent ex-employees as well as Los Angeles locals, seemingly at odds with her hyper-positive and generous reputation.
Less than two weeks later, things went from bad to worse when DeGeneres opened her first quarantine episode of The Ellen Show from home with a tone deaf joke about being queer in jail.
She said, from her $27 million mansion: “This is like being in jail, is what it is. It’s mostly because I’ve been wearing the same clothes for ten days and everyone in here is gay.”
Although DeGeneres later quietly removed that section of the show, she has yet to address the incident or apologise.
