Ruby Rose leaving Batwoman after just one season ‘wasn’t 100 per cent her decision’

Ruby Rose didn’t quit Batwoman completely of her own accord, a source has said, describing her exit as a mutual “break-up”.
Rose, 34, had blazed a trail with the CW show, playing the out-and-proud vigilante Kate Kane, who takes on the titular superhero mantle.
Batwoman wrapped up its first season this week and has already been renewed for a second — but the actor stunned many by announcing her withdrawal from the role on Wednesday (May 20)
Speculation as to why Rose quit has surged since, with one rumour of an-set injury that shut down production while filming sparking the move gaining steam.
But an insider claimed that Rose’s surprise exit was a mutual decision between her and the studio, TVLine reported.

“It wasn’t 100 per cent her decision,” the source said of Ruby Rose’s decision to leave Batwoman.

“It was a breakup. She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with?
“No. So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned if they parted ways.
“It just wasn’t a good fit.”
In a statement Rose issued to the press at the time of her exit, she said: “I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season.
“This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”
Batwoman will be recast with LGBT+ actor.
After Ruby Rose quit Batwoman, the show’s creators indicated that the part will be recast with another queer role model.
A statement from production companies Berlanti Productions and WBTV said: “Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best.
“The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”
