Ruby Rose breaks silence on difficult Batwoman exit: ‘I know how big this was for our community’
Ruby Rose has finally broken her silence a week after it was revealed she will not be returning for the second season of Batwoman.
The CW series will go on without the star, with producers instead opting to cast a new LGBT+ actor in the central role.
Rumours have abounded about why Ruby Rose quit Batwoman – some reports suggest she opted not to return due to long hours and an on-set injury, while others have implied the choice was not entirely hers to make.
In a statement posted to Instagram yesterday (May 27), Rose said she knows “how big” the show was for the LGBT+ community.
Ruby Rose says quitting Batwoman ‘wasn’t easy’.
“Thank you everyone for coming on this journey,” Rose wrote.
“If I mentioned everyone it would be 1000 tags,” she said, and went on to thank the cast, crew, producers and studio.
“It wasn’t an easy decision but those who know, know,” Rose added.
I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all.
“I didn’t want to not acknowledge everyone involved and how big this was for TV and for our community.”
She continued: “I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all. I’m sure the next season will be amazing also.”
Batwoman exit ‘wasn’t entirely her choice’.
Ruby Rose’s departure from Batwoman after just one season came as a shock to fans and critics alike last week.
In a statement released last week, Rose said she had not made the decision to quit the show lightly.
“I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created,” she said.
While the actor declined to give a reason as to why she was quitting the show, Deadline later reported that it was due to an on-set injury that shut down production temporarily on the show’s first season.
An unnamed insider later told TVLine that the decision to leave the show wasn’t entirely up to Rose.
“It wasn’t 100 per cent her decision,” the insider said.
“It was a breakup. She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No.”
“So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned if they parted ways.
“It just wasn’t a good fit.”
