Hamilton star Javier Muñoz says he was victim to a horrific homophobic attack by undercover cops

Former Hamilton star Javier Muñoz has said that, aged 15, he was subjected to a homophobic attack by undercover police officers.
The New York actor, best known for stepping into the role of Alexander Hamilton on Broadway, spoke out amid Black Lives Matter protests in the US.
Javier Muñoz: ‘I’ve a rage inside that is unquantifiable.’
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “I was 15 when I was gay bashed by five undercover cops.
“I grew up in East New York, Brooklyn, during the 80s when this violence was daily. I’ve a rage inside that is unquantifiable.
“I’m trying not to contaminate spaces with my rage but rather use it for whatever I can muster that is helpful.”

He added: “No to anything but the most oversight for police. No to anything less than 100 per cent transparency for police.”
Muñoz continued: “Why. Do. You. Still. Question. My. Anger? I’ve shared this before. You didn’t listen.”
Noting the timing, he added: “I stand in love and respect of and for each and every LGBT+ person in my life and in existence. Yes it is still PRIDE MONTH!”
Former Hamilton star is a HIV-positive gay man and cancer survivor.
The out actor has previously spoken about living with HIV and also surviving cancer.
In a previous interview with the New York Times, he explained: “I have been living with HIV since 2002, and I’m undetectable.
“I’m healthy, I’m strong and I’m very out about that because of the stigma still attached to it.”
He added: “I have this joke – if it’s funny or not funny, I don’t know – but the joke is that I have died several times already, and that’s how it feels.
“My life completely and drastically changed in 2002 when I was diagnosed with HIV, and then again [years later] with cancer. And you can’t unknow what you know. Life is not the same after that.
“But I’m alive, and I’m for all intents and purposes healthy and well. And I’m grateful for that.”
