Trans model Munroe Bergdorf labels JK Rowling ‘a threat to LGBT+ people’ in scathing rebuttal of latest anti-trans tirade
JK Rowling and her transphobic opinions are “a threat to LGBT+ people”, says trans model and activist Munroe Bergdorf.
Bergdorf also slammed JK Rowling’s latest remarks about trans people – posted to Twitter, where more than 14 million people still follow her, despite her views – as “dangerous”.
In yet another anti-trans Twitter thread on July 5, Rowling called trans healthcare “a new kind of conversion therapy”.
The 54-year-old had been criticised for liking another anti-trans tweet that called “hormone prescriptions” the “new antidepressants”.
“Hormone prescriptions are the new antidepressants,” the tweet liked by JK Rowling read.
“Yes they are sometimes necesary [sic] and lifesaving, but they should be a last resort – not the first option.
“Pure laziness for those who would rather medicate than put in the time and effort to heal people’s minds.”
Later that morning, following severe backlash to her actions, JK Rowling yet again decided to clarify her views by posting an 11-tweet thread on Twitter.
Her comments, which have provoked a tired anger in the LGBT+ community, come days after she was caught liking a hideously anti-LGBT+ tweet opposing a ban on gay conversion therapy for children in Canada.
Bergdorf, who is patron of Mermaids, a charity that supports trans and gender-questioning children and their parents, said: “Mark my words. JK Rowling is dangerous and poses threat to LGBT+ people.
‘Trans healthcare is not conversion therapy. This is INSANE.”
In a separate tweet she added: “JK Rowling is not a scientist. She is not a doctor. She is not an expert on gender. She is not a supporter of our community.
“She is a billionaire, cisgender, heterosexual, white woman who has decided that she knows what is best for us and our bodies.
“This is not her fight.”
Bergdorf also called JK Rowling an “enemy of progress” and branded her comments “evil”.

JK Rowling backed by Baroness Nicholson – recently accused of bullying Munroe Bergdorf.
The Harry Potter author’s latest rant has been backed by Tory peer Baroness Nicholson, who called JK Rowling “the very bravest of women”, according to the Daily Mail.
Nicholson and Rowling together founded children’s charity Lumos.
Munroe Bergdorf responded to Nicholson’s support for Rowling on Twitter, saying: “Do you honestly think JK Rowling has trans people’s best interests?
“When she is business partners and long-term friends with Baroness Nicholson who voted AGAINST the repeal of Section 28, voted AGAINST gay marriage and is now posting transphobic material at the SAME TIME AS HER.”

Nicholson was recently dropped by the Booker Prize for her bigoted views on equal marriage, and has been the subject of hundreds of complaints to the House of Lords for sharing “racist and transphobic” abuse about Munroe Bergdorf.
The House of Lords standards commissioner has confirmed they will not be investigating Nicholson, as her comments on Twitter about Bergdorf fall “outside the remit” of her parliamentary activities.
Nicholson has since apologised to Bergdorf and invited her to lunch. Bergdorf’s response, while gracious, schooled the baroness – who’s been a life peer since 1997 – on the dangers of casual transphobia, racism and sexism.
Many in JK Rowling’s circles, from Harry Potter movie stars to her corporate partners and authors at her writing agency, have all distanced themselves from her as a result of her repeated attacks on the trans community.
