Shock jock Howard Stern urges Ellen DeGeneres to embrace her toxic reputation and be a ‘p***k’
Howard Stern has advised Ellen DeGeneres to embrace her newfound toxic reputation and be a “p***k”.
The controversial radio host made the comments on his SiriusXM radio show yesterday (10 August) following months of controversy surrounding DeGeneres and her long-running chat show.
“You know what I’d do if I was Ellen? I would change my whole image,” Stern said.
“I’d go on the air and be a son of a b***h… people would come on and [I would] go, ‘F**k you.’ Just be a p***k.”
“So you think I’m a p***k? I’m going to show you exactly,” he added.
Stern went on to say that he likes DeGeneres personally but said he has no idea what it’s like to work for her.
SiriusXM host Howard Stern called out Ellen DeGeneres in 2010, branding her ‘such a jerk’.
Notably, Stern was far ahead of the curve when he called out DeGeneres in 2010 on his radio show.
Speaking at the time, Stern said: “Ellen DeGeneres is such a jerk. She’s such a foul piece of garbage, people who work with her know… she’s a tyrant ogre, this whole nice girl image is a lot of horses**t fakery – she’s miserable, and she is a miserable woman.”
DeGeneres and Stern went on to mend their fractious relationship, with Stern jumping in to defend her from Christian evangelical group One Million Moms two years later when they threatened to boycott JCPenney when she became the company’s spokesperson.
I’d go on the air and be a son of a b***h… people would come on and [I would] go, ‘F**k you.’ Just be a p***k.
Stern’s latest comments come following months of controversy for the embattled talkshow host.
DeGeneres has seen her reputation torn to shreds in recent weeks and months as former staff members and past guests have spoken out about their experiences working with the star.
Earlier this year, a viral Twitter thread encouraged people to share their stories about DeGeneres being “one of the meanest people alive”.
Former staffers on the talkshow have alleged that racism and bullying are pervasive on set.
The controversy intensified last month when BuzzFeed published a report that painted a damning picture of alleged racism and intimidation on the show.
DeGeneres, 62, is said to have fired people for attending family funerals or taking medical leave, while producers joked that they’d mix up two Black employees because they had the same hairstyle.
One Black woman alleged that one of the show’s main writers said they only know the names of white employees, and people just “awkwardly laughed it off” rather than confronting it.
Others claimed that direct managers instructed lower-ranking employees not to speak to Ellen if they saw her around the office.
Overall, the former staff blamed senior managers and producers for the toxicity, but stressed that as it’s DeGeneres’ name on the brand “she really needs to take more responsibility”.
“I think the executive producers surround her and tell her, ‘Things are going great, everybody’s happy,'” one staff member suggested. “And she just believes that, but it’s her responsibility to go beyond that.”
The show’s producers said they were “heartbroken and sorry” upon hearing the allegations, and DeGeneres later issued her own apology to staff.
Meanwhile, DeGeneres’ wife Portia de Rossi told reporters this week that the star is doing “great”.
She also rubbished rumours that DeGeneres is planning to quit her talkshow, saying she will be back.
