Nicola Adams has zero time for homophobes who ‘can’t watch’ her dance with another woman on Strictly Come Dancing

Nicola Adams could not have less time for homophobes who “can’t watch” her dance with a same-sex partner on Strictly Come Dancing.

Strictly fans were thrilled when it was recently revealed that lesbian boxer Nicola Adams would be paired with pro Katya Jones, who won the competition in 2017, in the upcoming series.

Adams, 37, is set to make history as part of the BBC show’s first same-sex dance pairing when it returns on October 17.

But she told Radio Times that she has no patience for Strictly Come Dancing fans who say they “can’t watch” two women dancing together.

She said: “I’m expecting the same sort of thing I got with women’s boxing in the beginning – there will always be some resisters, but once they know you’re here to stay, they get used to it.

“Women dance together all the time in nightclubs. Traditionally I guess men and women would dance together when they were courting, so the older generation have that in their heads. They see it as a sexual thing rather than a sport.

“So someone’s going to comment on Twitter? It’s nothing, it won’t faze me at all.

“If they don’t like it, they’re going to have to deal with it or switch to another channel.”

Strictly star Nicola Adams has already faced complaints from homophobes before even stepping onto the ballroom floor.

Nicola Adams will take to the ballroom floor for the first time when the live shows begin on October 24. But before that, complaints have already been rolling in over her same-sex pairing.

Luckily, the BBC politely told homophobes to take a seat in its response.

The broadcaster said in a statement: “Strictly Come Dancing is an inclusive show and is proud to have featured same sex dancing amongst the professional dancers in group numbers in previous series… Nicola Adams requested an all-female pairing, which we are happy to facilitate.

“The show is first and foremost about dance, the sex of each partner within a coupling should have no bearing on their routine.”
