Harry Styles opens up about love of women’s clothes while turning looks and stunting pretty in a ballgown on cover of Vogue

Harry Styles has graced the cover of Vogue magazine, discussing his love for women’s clothes and the “crumbling” of gender lines in fashion.
The singer and lesbian icon has become the first man to appear on the cover of American Vogue solo for the fashion tome’s December issue.
On the cover Styles is styled in a floor-length Gucci gown and tuxedo jacket, hoofing a balloon.
The star opened up about his style journey, from his One Direction uniform of skinny jeans and unfortunate hats through to his current wardrobe of frills, lace and flares.
“Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with,” Styles told Vogue in an interview which begins on noted gay cruising spot Hapstead Heath.
“What’s really exciting is that all of these lines are just kind of crumbling away. When you take away ‘There’s clothes for men and there’s clothes for women,’ once you remove any barriers, obviously you open up the arena in which you can play.
I just find myself looking at the women’s clothes thinking they’re amazing.
“I’ll go in shops sometimes, and I just find myself looking at the women’s clothes thinking they’re amazing.
“It’s like anything – anytime you’re putting barriers up in your own life, you’re just limiting yourself. There’s so much joy to be had in playing with clothes. I’ve never really thought too much about what it means — it just becomes this extended part of creating something.”

Harry Styles told Vogue “showmen” Prince, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury and Elton John are his idols, adding: “As a kid it was completely mind-blowing.
“Now I’ll put on something that feels really flamboyant, and I don’t feel crazy wearing it.”

Having released his second album Fine Line in December 2019 to critical acclaim, next year will see Harry Styles turn his talents to film.
He’s been tipped to play a lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of queer book My Policeman.
Before that, he’ll appear in Don’t Worry Darling, a “psychological thriller centring on an unhappy housewife in the 1950s” directed by Olivia Wilde.
Filming on the movie was recently paused and Styles forced into self-isolation after a crew member on the set tested positive for coronavirus.
