Harry Styles’ mum defends her son’s right to wear a gorgeous ballgown: ‘I think I had something to do with it’
Harry Styles’ mother, Anne Twist, lept to the defence of her son gracing the front covers of American Vogue in a ballgown after conservatives with nothing better to do castigated him for it.
Appearing via video uplink on the British daytime talk show Lorraine, the 51-year-old revealed that she herself might have inspired Styles’ love of “dress-up”.
The former One Direction singer turned lesbian icon donned a Gucci ballgown for the cover shoot, becoming the first solo male to pose for the magazine’s cover in 127 years.
But Styles was already wearing Vogue-worthy outfits when he was younger, Twist said.
Host Lorraine Kellly described Styles as looking “rather gorgeous” before adding: “Why should you think ‘clothes are for girls and clothes are for boys’, wear whatever you like.”
“Absolutely,” Twist agreed.
“I think maybe I had something to do with it because I was always a big fan of doing fancy dress with the kids when they were smaller, which his sister [Gemma] hated but Harry always embraced.
“But who doesn’t love doing a bit of dress-up?” she said.
Harry Styles targeted by right-wing pundits Candace Owens and Ben Shapiro for wearing a dress.
It comes after two American right-wing political pundits, Candace Owens and Ben Shapiro, both lasered in on Styles for wearing a dress. Framing the clothing choice as an, er, attack against “western civilisation” itself.
Styles explained to the Condé Nast publication that he finds wearing clothing outside stuffy gender roles can be liberating for him. But that was apparently all it took to tick off Shapiro and Owens.
Owens branded Styles wearing the gown as an “outright attack” on western civilisation itself, er, somehow, while cobbling together a few other dog whistles such as “Marxism is being taught in our schools” and “no society […] can survive without strong men”.
There is no society that can survive without strong men. The East knows this. In the west, the steady feminization of our men at the same time that Marxism is being taught to our children is not a coincidence.
It is an outright attack.Bring back manly men. https://t.co/sY4IJF7VkK

A similar tune was trumpeted by known anti-LGBT+ activist Shapiro, who was similarly intimated of Styles wearing a dress and dubbed it a “referendum on masculinity for men to don floofy dresses”.
This is perfectly obvious. Anyone who pretends that it is not a referendum on masculinity for men to don floofy dresses is treating you as a full-on idiot. https://t.co/cioUNBh4bi— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) November 16, 2020
Shapiro then tweeted several more paragraphs about how “The Left” is out to “feminise masculinity” and used it as an excuse to punch down trans people.
