Model Ella Baig didn’t realise she was bisexual until her friends explained not everyone is attracted to more than one gender
Ella Baig didn’t know she was bisexual until her friends told her that not everyone is attracted to more than one gender.
The model, who is in a relationship with Strictly Come Dancing star Nicola Adams, told Bobby Norris and First Dates waitress Cici Coleman on Fubar’s Access All Areas show that discovering her sexuality was a process.
Baig, 22, said: “I had no clue about my sexuality when I was younger. For ages, I genuinely just thought that everyone thought that women were attractive, and it was normal, and I didn’t fancy them.
“I just thought they were attractive and that’s what everyone thought.”
Ella Baig didn’t know she was bisexual until friends told her so.
She continued: “It wasn’t till my friends were sort of like, ‘no, Ella’. I was like, ‘Oh well then I must be bisexual’, but even then I didn’t know my type. I didn’t know anything.”
Speaking about her relationship with Adams, Baig said: “Nikki is the first masculine lesbian that I’ve ever dated. I thought I liked girls that look like me and wondered why I always just wanted to be friends with them. So, like, you don’t see any different people growing up.
“Especially like, when I started going to London, there was more diversity and there were so many different people.
It wasn’t till my friends were sort of like, ‘no, Ella’. I was like, ‘Oh well then I must be bisexual’.
“Whereas where I was living there were no different people. It’s so odd but when you don’t see different people you don’t know a lot about who you like and things like that.”
Speaking about Adams, Baig said Adams joined Strictly Come Dancing because she wants to “inspire other people to be themselves”.
Baig said it was “so long overdue” to have a same-sex couple on the show, adding: “I mean, it is ridiculous when you even say to yourself that people complain about seeing two women dancing together on TV.
“It’s not hurting anyone, it’s not affecting anyone, no one is forcing other women to dance with other women, and it is completely their choice. But yeah, just the fact that it got such a mixed response just shows how necessary it was.”
