The Drag Race season 13 cast is officially here, including the first-ever trans man to compete as a contestant, Gottmik.

RuPaul is coming to save us from the uninhabitable doom of 2020 by dropping season 13 of Drag Race on the first day of the new year, with 13 new queens taking to the werk room.

The sickening list of contestants was revealed Wednesday evening (9 December) after the first trailer was leaked online for the upcoming season.

Among the well-high-heeled and powdered competitors is Gottmik, the first out trans man to compete in the show.

His involvement has already been welcomed be a seismic step for a show that has, at times, struggled and been criticised for excluding trans and non-binary queens.

Chatting to Entertainment Weekly, Gottmik said: “I was always good at makeup, and if I went out in drag, it was the only time people thought I was a guy…. Once I got more comfortable with myself out of drag, my drag character was able to actually be my art, and that’s when I started taking it seriously.”

He revealed that RuPaul was the “most supportive, amazing person” who “showed love for my drag and what I do.”

“The main thing I want to make so clear is that the gender spectrum is really crazy, and I feel like me doing feminine drag is confusing to a lot of people,” he addedd.

“I want to show everyone that no matter what you transition to, boy or girl, there’s a whole gender spectrum in between that you can play with and have fun with, and it doesn’t mean that your identity is any less valid.”

Denali.

Denali, the Chicago-based queen, will be sure to break the ice with her drag combining her skills as a professional ice skater.

Elliott with 2 Ts.

Elliot with 2 Ts is straight out of Las Vegas, but her love of the 1980s makes this showgirl one to gamble on.

Gottmik.

The Los Angeles-based makeup artist is the first trans man to compete in the show’s history.

Joey Jay.

A dancer performing in RuPaul’s Drag Race? What a concept! Joey Jay, based in Arizona, has a storied career of ballroom dancing and doing backup for Coco Montrese.

Kahmora Hall.

Kahmora Hall, a drag sister of Jaida Essence Hall, Naysha Lopez and Dida Ritz, is based in Chicago.

Kandy Muse.

Kandy Muse, the series’ first Dominican competitor, arrives to the werk room already a star, being a former Brooklyn Drag Queen of the Year.

LaLa Ri.

LaLa Ri is one of two Atlanta challengers this season, and her poppy, pastel-hued style will no doubt sparkle after this dreary year.

Olivia Lux.

Another New York queen. A keen pianist with a career in musical theatre and the reigning Miss Paradise 2020, life – and the runway – will certainly be her stage.

Rosé.

Everything’s coming up Rosé. A member of New York City’s Stephanie’s Child drag-singing trio, Rosé is a talented singer.

Symone.

The first queen ever to come from Arkansas, Symone is part of the House of Avalon with Lizzo stylist Marko Monroe.

Tamisha Iman.

Tamisha Iman, of Atlanta, Georgia, is drag royalty – a seasoned queen who has competed in pageants since the late 1990s.

Tina Burner.

Tina Burner, from New York, is the National Miss Comedy Queen 2019 but her drag is no joke.

Utica Queen.

 

Utica Queen from Minneapolis describes herself as “wacky, wavy inflatable arm-tube queen”, which says than anything we could ever write.
