Gay Trump sycophant who called for a ‘revolution’ at the Capitol arrested after own family turns him in
Gay Trump supporter Brandon Straka has been arrested for his role in the storming of the US Capitol by white nationalists after being reported to the FBI by a member of his own family.
Straka is best known for founding the so-called “Walk Away” movement, an unsurprisingly unsuccessful drive for LGBT+ people to abandon Democrats who support equal rights and instead back anti-LGBT+ Republicans.
The 43-year-old MAGA stan, who boasts a large following among Trump supporters, was arrested in Nebraska on Monday (25 January) after allegedly taking part in the 6 January assault on the US Capitol as lawmakers certified Joe Biden’s election victory.
The Department of Justice confirmed that Straka faces charges for “impeding law enforcement officer during civil disorder, knowingly entering and remaining on restricted grounds without lawful authority, and engaging in disorderly conduct with intent to disturb a hearing before Congress”.
Brandon Straka arrested after relative sent videos to FBI.
Straka had been invited to speak at the “Stop the Steal” rally prior to the attack, encouraging attendees to “fight back” and repeatedly calling for a “revolution”, before joining the crowds at the Capitol.
The galaxy-brained influencer live-tweeted and filmed his actions at the protest, before uploading a 58-minute account of the incident afterwards, handily giving law enforcement plenty of evidence of his movements during the attack.
The since-deleted videos were supplied to the FBI by a relative of Straka, a criminal complaint reveals, with the footage showing Straka among crowds as rioters attempt to break through the entrance of the capital.
According to the complaint, the footage appears to show Straka egging on protesters to engaged in scuffles with a police officer holding the line, urging them to “take” his shield.
As he approached the building, Straka allegedly declared “we’re going in, we’re going in” and “go, go!” However, he complained of being “gassed” as he approached the entrance to the building.
In a since-removed tweet, he added: “I arrived at the Capitol a few hours ago as patriots were storming from all sides. I was quite close to entering myself as police began tear gassing us from the door. I inhaled tear gas and got it in my eyes. Patriots began exiting shortly after saying Congress had been cleared.”
Straka is yet to comment on his arrest, though he has restricted access to his Twitter account.
‘Former liberal’ previously threw a tantrum over mandatory mask rules.
The self-described “former liberal” previously made headlines in June when he sparked an incident onboard an airplane by refusing to comply with a mandatory mask policy.
Straka, who was travelling to a Trump rally. was eventually removed from the American Airlines flight from New York to Dallas after he refused to put on his mask. Other passengers applauded as he was escorted off the flight.
American Airlines confirmed at the time: “After [Straka] refused to comply with the instructions provided by the flight crew, our team members asked him to deplane. He deplaned and the flight departed the gate four minutes late at 12:34 p.m. ET.”
