‘Animal rights activist’ thinks coming out as vegan is ‘much more special’ than coming out as LGBT+. Seriously
A vegan TikToker has come under fire after posting a video in which she said “coming out as a vegan animal rights activist” is more special than it is to come out as a member of the LGBTQ community.
That Vegan Teacher, also known as Miss Kadie, says she’s on TikTok “to help animals and all who are oppressed”. She has a whopping 1.7m followers, and her videos have received over 33.4m likes.
While most of her videos focus on supporting animal rights and eating a healthy diet, she’s come under fire for the controversial take that “coming out” as a vegan is “much more special” than coming out as LGBT+.
In a since-deleted TikTok, That Vegan Teacher issued a response to another user’s comment: “Coming out as vegan is not as special as coming out as gay/lesbian. I am lesbian myself. Vegan is a diet, not sexuality.”
She responded: “You’re absolutely wrong. Coming out as a vegan animal rights activist — as someone who cares beyond themself — is much more special than it is to come out as a member of the LGBTQ community. Coming out as a member of the LGBTQ community is an entirely selfish act. It’s talking about you only.
“It’s not talking about the things you’re going to do to better the world. Coming out as an animal rights activist is talking about the animals — others, not just you. In fact, it is a completely unselfish thing to do.”
It would appear That Vegan Teacher deleted this TikTok, but the internet is forever. And soon, YouTubers created response videos to her take that coming out is a selfish act.
D’Angelo Wallace is an American YouTube commentator and Twitch streamer known for his videos of controversial YouTubers and Internet personalities. He made a reaction video on That Vegan Teacher, which garnered over 1.2m views.
In the video titled “TikTok’s terrifying vegan teacher lives a double life“, Wallace called out That Vegan Teacher for comparing “veganphobia” – hatred of vegans – to other forms of bigotry. He said That Vegan Teacher’s response video was “homophobic”.
A Big Mac and being gay, not the same thing.
Other YouTubers have also responded to the video. Fraser MacDonald, also known as iNabber, is an English YouTuber and commentator. MacDonald, who is bisexual, made a video titled “That Vegan Teacher is bullying LGBT people“, which has been viewed over 600,000 times.
“I think you’ve got the meat that the gays are into mixed up with chicken nuggets,” MacDonald joked. “They’re into another form of meat.”
He said it seemed That Vegan Teacher “prioritises chicken, sheep and cows over human beings”. MacDonald added: “In her mind, it seems that saying ‘hey guys, I don’t like f**king Big Macs anymore’ is the equivalent of saying ‘hey guys, I’m LGBT’.
“Quick note: them two things aren’t the same. A Big Mac and being gay, not the same thing. I never thought I’d have to say that.”
He said That Vegan Teacher failed to grasp that people can change whether they consume meat or not, but people cannot change their sexuality. MacDonald added that LGBT+ people across the world are persecuted and punished for their sexuality, while vegans are currently not.
This isn’t That Vegan Teacher’s only controversial take.
That Vegan Teacher has a history of making questionable TikToks. In one video, which was posted shortly after the deleted “coming out as vegan” one, she responded to one follower’s criticism.
The user said: “So you’re basically saying I should rather force myself to be straight, but don’t drink milk. OK, mate.”
That Vegan YouTuber responded by saying that nobody is “telling you to force yourself to be straight”, adding: “Don’t try to twist my words.”
She continued: “I am saying that it is OK to be part of the LGBTQ community and that everyone should strive to be vegan.
“All of you people who talk about being oppressed should understand that you are also the oppressors. You are oppressing the animals every single time that you pay for hamburgers at McDonald’s, chicken wings at KFC, any of the other things on your plate that involve dead animal parts.
“If you are choosing to buy cow’s milk instead of soy milk, you are part of the problem. You are an oppressor. You don’t like being treated badly then don’t do it to the animals. Start to be better. Be brave and be vegan.”

On top of that whopper of a video, That Vegan YouTuber also created a video in which she continuously sang: “LGBTQ, we support you. But if you don’t like oppression, why the fuck aren’t you vegan yet?”
