QAnon congresswoman Majorie Taylor Greene thinks transphobia will save America
Georgia congresswoman and QAnon supporter Majorie Taylor Greene thinks America has a choice between transphobia and destruction.
Majorie Taylor Greene is widely known for expressing support for QAnon, a conspiracy theory that claims former president Donald Trump was waging a war against elite Satan-worshipping paedophiles in government, business and the media, and for opposing trans rights.
Democrats are currently leading efforts to remove her from Congress, which Greene has somehow managed to use as a platform to once again espouse her anti-trans views.
During an interview with Atlanta radio station WSB’s Word on the Street, Greene said attempts to unseat her will fail as “that’s not what my district wants”. She said: “If people cave into this, if Republican leadership caves into it, if anyone caves into it, then the mob wins and cancel culture continues on.”
She continued by promoting the anti-trans “Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act” she co-sponsored after taking office on 3 January.
In the interview, she said she was “proud” to support the proposed legislation, which would strip funding from schools that allows trans girls and women to participate in sports.
She claimed that being inclusive of trans people and ditching tired, binary gender stereotypes will “destroy our country”.
“They don’t want conservative speech,” Greene said.
“They don’t want conservative values because they want to convince you there is no gender.
“They want to erase and attack God’s creation, that there’s male and female and he created them in his image.
“And they want to continue down the road of these policies and these changes that are really going to destroy our country and destroy our identity and destroy who we are as a nation and tear us all apart.”
Majorie Taylor Greene accused trans women of ‘infiltrating women’s sports’.
Greene has previously accused trans women of “infiltrating women’s sports to achieve a competitive advantage”. In a 23 January press release, she said allowing trans women to compete in sports “completely violates women’s rights in every way”.
“Women’s sports should be women’s sports,” Greene said.
She repeated her anti-trans rhetoric during the WSB interview. Greene said the bill to stop trans women from participating in sports was a “bipartisan issue”. She added: “This is not a Republican-Democrat issue.
“It’s an issue of right and wrong.
“Boys do not belong in girls’ and women’s sports.”
Greene won’t face any repercussions over controversial and incendiary rhetoric.
Republicans announced Thursday (4 February) that Majorie Taylor Greene will not face consequences from within her own party for her history of bigoted and conspiracy-mongering behaviour.
Before she was elected in November 2020, Greene liked posts calling for violence against Democratic lawmakers and claimed that school shootings and the 9/11 terror attack were staged events.
However, Kevin McCarthy, house minority leader for the US House of Representatives, said Greene will not be punished. He condemned her comments, saying: “Past comments from and endorsed by Majorie Taylor Greene on school shootings, political violence and anti-semitic conspiracy theories do not represent the values of beliefs of the House Republican Conference.”
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi described McCarthy’s handling of the situation as “cowardly”. She said: “McCarthy’s failure to lead his party effectively hands the keys over to Greene – an antisemite, QAnon adherent and 9/11 truther.”
In January, Greene introduced a measure attempting to impeach president Joe Biden, accusing him of corruption and abuse of power.
