Drag Race is getting a Eurovision-style singing contest spin-off and we’re not K hun about it
The makers of Drag Race have announced Queen of the Universe, a new Eurovision-style singing competition launching on streaming service Paramount Plus.
Just in case you hadn’t had your fill of singing drag queens already, World of Wonder has confirmed a new Paramount Plus series pitting drag artists from around the world against each other in a singing tournament that promises “high heels, high octaves” and “high competition” that will “blow your wig off”. Bing bang bong, indeed.
Not much else is known about Queen of the Universe, including whether the queens will perform in person or will have to pre-record their performances from their respective countries due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions.
The new series will launch on Paramount Plus alongside the forthcoming Drag Race All Stars 6, which is controversially jumping from VH1 to the paid-for streaming service, which you can sign up to here.
An air date for both Queen of the Universe and All Stars 6 is still to come.
Meanwhile, RuPaul’s bid for world domination has extended to the charts, with the Drag Race UK anthem “UK Hun?” scaling the official single chart to reach a respectable 27 last week.
The addictive track comes from the United Kingdolls – Tayce, Lawrence Chaney, Bimini Bon Boulash and A’Whora – and is the highest-charting Drag Race UK single to date, besting last season’s “Break Up, Bye Bye”.
Paramount Plus to feature a slew of reboots
All Stars 6 and Queens of the Universe will join other newly-announced content on Paramount Plus including a 30-years-later reunion of MTV’s Real World: New York starring all seven original housemates, a CGI reimagining of classic animated show Rugrats, an iCarly revival and a live-action series based on the Xbox game series Halo.
Frasier will also be rebooted, with Kelsey Grammer confirmed to star.
Paramount Plus launches on 4 March as a rebrand of the existing CBS All Access service. It will be a hub for all broadcast, news, sports and entertainment under the ViacomCBS umbrella. You can find out more at paramountplus.com.
