Don Lemon scorches Republican Tim Scott after claim ‘woke supremacy is as bad as white supremacy’
CNN journalist Don Lemon emotionally rebuked Republican Tim Scott after the politician claimed that “woke supremacy” is just as bad as white supremacy.
Scott, who is the only Black Republican senator in office currently, was interviewed on Fox News after the FBI director announced there was a serious threat with white supremacist groups in the US, specifically after the Capitol riots that took place on 6 January.
But Scott declared: “Woke supremacy is as bad as white supremacy. We need to take that seriously.”
On CNN Tonight with Don Lemon, the journalist unleashed a multitude of ways in which white supremacists differ from “woke” individuals. He said: “I’ve never seen a woke supremacist lynching anybody.”
Lemon added he had never seen a “woke” individual: deny someone “access to housing or a job or education or voting rights”; “enslaving anybody”; or try to “keep people from marrying amongst different races”.
However, Lemon started to become more emotional as he reminded Scott that he didn’t see any “woke supremacists storming the blanking Capitol”. He commented on the lack of “woke” individuals as clips from the Capitol riot played.
“Where are the woke supremacists attacking Capitol Police?” Lemon asked. “Where are the woke supremacists hunting people in the halls of the Capitol and beating them with blue lives matter signs with the white supremacist insignia on their shirts?”
He pointed out that white supremacists were the ones who “police officers were beaten by” and who wanted to “hang the vice president”.
“The only Black Republican – were the woke supremacists carrying the Confederate battle flag in the nation’s Capitol, Tim Scott?” Lemon said.
He said Scott’s claims are “ridiculous”. Lemon then accused Scott of “gaslighting” and purposefully misinforming Americans.
“You are gaslighting people,” Lemon said. “You are giving people misinformation.”
He continued: “What are you doing, brother? What are you doing? What are you doing? You’re not helping.”
Republicans wage war on ‘wokeness’ as white supremacy runs riot
Scott’s comments about ‘wokeness’ come at a time when Republicans have zeroed in on cancel culture’
Recently, Dr Seuss Enterprises, which preserves and protects the author’s legacy, said it would end reprints of six books that use racist or insensitive imagery. It told the Associated Press that ceasing sales of the books is “part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure Dr Seuss Enterprises’ catalogue represents and supports all communities and families”.
The news then prompted House minority leader Kevin McCarthy to release a five-minute video of himself reading Dr Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham, which isn’t being affected by the decision of Dr Seuss Enterprises.
He posted the video on Twitter on Saturday (6 March) with the caption: “I still like Dr Seuss so I decided to read Green Eggs and Ham.”
Days later, a conservative news network claimed the “woke folks on the left” and Demi Lovato would cancel International Women’s Day.
In an episode of Real America with Dan Ball, presenter Dan Ball said the “woke, cancel culture mob” might “get rid” of the day of celebration because the “science” around gender identity is “under attack”. He claimed Lovato was part of the “woke mob” because she posted on Instagram that she thinks that gender reveal parties are transphobic.
