This is the best season of RuPaul’s Drag Race – and the worst – officially
Which is the best season of RuPaul’s Drag Race? We finally have a definitive answer.
If you were planning on spending the first day of nightclubs reopening in the smoking area arguing over what RuPaul’s Drag Race season is the best, then you’re in luck.
Over 13 seasons, five All Stars editions and an ever-growing number of international spin-offs, millions have tuned in to watch the queens lip-sync for their lives, call shade and get gooped.
Broadband experts at money.co.uk celebrated the recent 12-year anniversary of Drag Race by diving deep into the IMDb data behind the show.
On average, it found, Drag Race episodes netted a solid 7.87 out of 10 among viewers.
But the sixth season – which featured now Drag Race legends Bianca Del Rio, Adore Delano and Courtney Act – is, according to the experts, the season that well and truly brought the house down.
It averaged the highest fan rating compared to any other season of the main edition: 8.39 out of 10.
The season’s Snatch Game episode is the highest-rated episode of the main Drag Race series, scoring 9.2 No wonder, considering we had legendary performances such as Bianca Del Rio’s Judge Judy and BenDeLaCreme’s Maggie Smith.
Even season six’s worst episode – “Glitter Ball” – ranked a respectable 7.7.
Bottom of the pile, however, is one that might leave some Drag Race fans stunned.
It’s none other than season 11, which included the likes of Brooke Lynn Heights and Silky Nutmeg Ganache as well as the surprise return of Vanessa Vanjie Mateo. It scored 7.29 overall.
Although, the lowest-rated episode of the season, “The Draglympics”, wasn’t even among the franchise’s all-time lows.
Season 10 episode seven’s “Evil Twins” is the franchise’s least-liked episode so far. It featured a controversial joke about bipolar disorder, contributing to its 5.6 out of 10 score. In a not-at-all ironic twist, second to last is season 12’s “World’s Worst”, with a measly 5.7.
All Stars and Holland ranked the best and worst of Drag Race
All Stars was ranked separately, and of course the winning season was All Stars 2, which average 8.44 out of 10 – making it highest-rated series of the franchise. The iconic “Revenge of the Queens” scored a near-perfect 9.6 out of 10.
Surprisingly, the worst-ranked All Stars wasn’t its long-lost first season, which averaged 7.2, putting it in third place just behind All Stars 5 (7.69). At the bottom of the list was All Stars 4, averaging 6.84, with the divisive double crowning finale ranked just 3.1 out of 10. In penultimate place was All Stars 3 with 6.93 – again, its controversial finale twist dragged its rankings down.
Of the international editions, Drag Race UK season one came out top with 8.18 (its second season is still ongoing, and so wasn’t counted).
This was followed by Drag Race Thailand’s two seasons (8.01 for season two and 7.53 for season one), Canada (7.29), and Holland – which scored the worst of any Drag Race franchise series with 5.84.
