Keanu Reeves denies rumours he’ll star in film about disgraced singer Boy George

Keanu Reeves has denied being involved in a Boy George biopic after the disgraced musician said there were “rumours” he might be attached.
In a video for Deadline, the Culture Club frontman gave details on the new film, which is titled Karma Chameleon.
Introducing himself as “obviously Boy George”, he said: “I’m very excited to announce the movie of my life and Culture Club called Karma Chameleon will be shot this summer in London and around the world.”
He claimed that Line of Duty star Danny Mays was “already on board” to play his father, and added: “There’s rumours of Keanu Reeves popping in… ooh, name drop!”
However, a representative for Reeves told PinkNews that the actor “is not involved in this project”. PinkNews contacted representatives of Boy George for comment.
It remains to be seen who will play Boy George in the film, which Deadline says will “explore George’s humble beginnings in an Irish working-class family, through his rise to the top of the international charts with the ’80s band Culture Club”.
Deadline didn’t specify whether the film would chart the singer’s later years, but made a scant reference to George’s 2008 conviction for the assault and false imprisonment of a sex worker.
Keanu Reeves will next be seen in The Matrix 4, due for release in December.
His character, Neo, died at the end of the original trilogy, and it remains unclear how his return to the franchise will play out.
The new film is written and directed by Lana Wachowski, with Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff joining returning players Carrie Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith.
The Matrix 4 will make Wachowski the first openly trans person to helm a major Hollywood blockbuster by themselves. The director – who created the original trilogy with sister Lilly – has said she is “grateful” for the chance to revisit the films’ themes, which “are even more relevant now”.
Lilly Wachowski has confirmed the original Matrix is an allegory for the trans experience.
