Strictly Come Dancing ‘seriously considering’ two same-sex couples this year

Strictly Come Dancing is reportedly “seriously considering” including two same-sex couples in this year’s line-up of dancers.
Last year saw lesbian boxer Nicola Adams and Katya Jones become the show’s first-ever same-sex dance partners, but the pair had to drop out after Jones tested positive for COVID-19.
Despite their short run in the competition and warnings of a homophobic boycott by the likes of Ann Widdecombe, the first episode of Strictly Come Dancing amassed the most viewers for a first live show in a decade, with 10 million tuning in to watch the same-sex couple on the dance floor.
A “TV insider” has now told The Sun: “Bosses are still looking at all the options but given the positive feedback from last year, they’re seriously considering having two same-sex couples, one male and one female.
“The show has to move forward and viewers loved last year’s series.”
Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return for its 19th series later this year.

Munroe Bergdorf wants to become Strictly Come Dancing’s first trans contestant
Model, Mermaids ambassador and author Munroe Bergdorf recently said she would like to become Strictly Come Dancing‘s first-ever openly trans contestant.
Speaking on the Make It Reign podcast this month, Bergdorf, whose debut book Transitional will be published in September, said: “I’ve always said that Strictly is the only one that I’ve got a desire to do.”
She added: “I’ve got a plan. I want to get everything done that I want to achieve, then I can start doing those shows.
“It’s really exciting. I kind of feel that once you’re part of a reality TV show the general public starts shaping your narrative in a way that’s much more difficult for you to shape.
