Demi Lovato proudly comes out as non-binary and changes pronouns to they/them
Demi Lovato publicly came out as non-binary Wednesday morning (19 May), revealing that their pronouns are “they/them”.
In a moving video posted on their social media, Lovato, 28, told fans they had been “doing some healing and self-reflective work” in the past year.
The “Sorry Not Sorry” hitmaker, who proudly came out as pansexual earlier this year, said they/them pronouns capture “the fluidity I feel in my gender expression, and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and still am discovering”.
“Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity and chance to be who we want and wish to be,” they tweeted.
Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, & everything in between. pic.twitter.com/HSBcfmNruo

“I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, and everything in between.
“Not only has my life been a journey for myself, I was also living for those on the other side of the cameras
“Today is a day I’m so happy to share more of my life with you all – I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary and will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward ?

“This has come after a lot of healing and self-reflective work. I’m still learning and coming into myself, and I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson.
“Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me. I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths and know I am sending so much love your way.”
Countless fans – including Drag Race UK‘s very own non-binary icon Bimini Bon Boulash – praised Demi Lovato for triumphantly stating their truth on Twitter.

Lovato made the announcement ahead of their podcast series, 4D.
The first episode will see them discuss their gender identity with gender non-conforming writer Alok Vaid-Menon, according to the Metro.co.uk.
The singer explained how they met Vaid-Menon through their mutual pal, Sam Smith. Attending Vaid-Menon’s show, Demi Lovato said they had an almost “visceral reaction” to hearing the artist’s words about living beyond the binary.
It comes after Demi Lovato reflected on being pansexual on The Joe Rogan Experience last month. “I’m so fluid now, and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was super closeted off,” they said.
“I’m part of the alphabet mafia and proud,” they joked. “Why can’t we just say queer, y’all?”
