Fortnite join forces with the NBA for a basketball-themed battle royale crossover extravaganza
For the first time ever, the world of NBA is coming to Fortnite as the Fortnite x NBA: The Crossover debuts on May 21.
Yesterday (19 May) Epic Games announced its latest in-game collaboration, which has excited both battle royale fans and basketball fans everywhere. Ahead of the 2021 NBA Playoffs, the National Basketball Association is launching in Fortnite – giving its fans and players a chance to suit up and represent any of the 30 NBA teams in the league.
Debuting at the same time as the State Farm NBA Play-In Tournament, Fortnite x NBA: The Crossover will land in-game May 21 at 8PM ET / 1AM BST. The in-game shop brings some of the NBA’s freshest jerseys and kits – featuring The In The Paint Set that includes 31 uniforms and 30 of the NBA teams.
From the LA Lakers to the New York Knicks, players can grab the Shoot & Score Pack to get the Hookshot Emote and Mini Hoop Back Bling. This means that whenever other players acquire the Mini Hoop Back Bling, they’ll be able to call your shot. There’s also a new Dribblin’ traversal Emote, which players can use to show off their handles if they are playing point guard.
As part of the NBA crossover, two of its brightest stars – Donovan Mitchell and Trae Young – have hand-picked Fortnite lockers that players can purchase.
Fortnite is no stranger to a sports in-game collab, as previously they’ve had an NFL crossover and a soccer crossover – the latter saw a hunky skin of Brazilian football star Neymar JR, which was, frankly, a delight.
And speaking of collaborations, earlier this month, a leaked document revealing plans for a Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande in-game concert during the lawsuit between Apple and Epic Games.
