Coronation Street star Matilda Freeman comes out as bisexual in the most low-key way
Former Coronation Street star Matilda Freeman has come out as bisexual in a candid question and answer session with fans on Instagram.
Freeman played Summer Spellman on long-running British soap Coronation Street from 2017 to 2020. In an open Q & A session on her Instagram stories, a fan asked Freeman about her sexuality. The teen actor replied: “I am bisexual“. She also added two hearts to the message.
Freeman shared that she was inundated with messages of support from her fans after coming out, according to Metro. She wrote again on her Instagram stories: “Can I just say – thank you for all the love and support I’ve received after making my sexuality aware on my socials.
“I really wasn’t expecting it and it means the absolute world, you guys are amazing. I love you all.”
Matilda Freeman decided to leave Coronation Street in 2020 to explore new opportunities. She said, at the time, that she felt “it was time for a change” after “three and a half lovely years” on the show, and she was “excited to be starting that next chapter with a new role”. Harriet Bibby took over as Summer Spellman late last year when she was recast in Freeman’s former role.
Freeman also addressed her departure from Coronation Street on her recent Instagram stories session. She told her followers that she left the hit show to be able to work on other shows, films and projects.
“When you work at Corries you’re under a contract which means you can’t work on anything else while you’re there – so it was quite limiting,” Freeman wrote.
Freeman has also appeared in other TV shows such as Dropperz and Doctors. She starred in a variety of shorts including 2016 Lifeline, Limbo, The Chime of Youth and Strain. Her last film appearance was as Lilly in the 2019 sci-fi, fantasy film The Last Boy.
