These two Drag Race winners weren’t even supposed to be on the show

Two RuPaul’s Drag Race winners weren’t originally cast on their series, it’s been revealed.
Drag Race legends Gottmik and Trixie Mattel spilled the tea on the latter’s YouTube channel after the former recalled how she was originally told that she “wasn’t getting on” the show.
A few days later, she said in, producers called her a second time with good news.
“Maybe you were an alternate,” Trixie said, adding that Violet Chachki, winner of season seven, “was famously an alternate – and she won”.
“Violet was not in the original cast, somebody dropped out,” Trixie said.
“Same with Jaida,” Gottmik added, referring to season 12 winner Jaida Essence Hall.
It was mentioned during season 12 that Jaida had one week less to prepare for the werk room than the other queens.
Despite this, she impressed the judges on the runway week after week, clocking up three main challenge wins and ultimately taking home the crown.
Gottmik wants a ‘gorge trans woman’ to win Drag Race
Regardless of how she was cast, Gottmik went on to make history as Drag Race’s first out trans male contestant.
She made it all the way to the final, being knocked out in the lip-sync smackdown for the crown by the eventual winner, Symone.
“I went into the show not wanting to win… I was like, ‘I want an All Stars option’,” she said.
“Now a gorge trans woman can come in and be the first trans winner as opposed to like, a white twink putting on a wig.”
That “gorge” trans woman could well be Kylie Sonique Love, who is currently competing in All Stars 6.
If she were to win, she’d become the first trans winner of the American show. Angele Anang was the first trans woman to win a Drag Race series internationally, winning the second season of Drag Race Thailand.
RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars is currently airing on Netflix. Season 14 is expected to follow next year.
