Superhero epic The Boys is getting a spin-off that’s an ‘exciting, perverted Marvel’

Amazon’s The Boys is getting a spin-off and the creator has described it as a “perverted Marvel”.
The new series will focus on the G-Men team – a parody of the X-Men – who are mentioned in the first season of The Boys.
They’re a new batch of younger superheroes in a college run by the evil corporation Vought International, and feature in the comic book series of the same name.
Erik Kripke, the showrunner, revealed more about the spin-off telling The Hollywood Reporter: “We’re writing furiously. I think it’s coming along really great.
“It’s exciting in that sort of perverted Marvel way – in the way that different Marvel projects are very different: One’s a thriller, one’s a comedy.
“This feels like that, too, but with a ton more d**k jokes.”
The spin-off series has also been described as part college show and part Hunger Games, as the hormonal superheroes put their power to the test and compete for the best contracts in the outside world.
The Boys has been praised for its LGBT+ representation in a genre that often overlooks queer characters and storylines, with the bisexual character Maggie Shaw/Queen Maeve played by Dominique McElligott.
Screenrant note that a scene in season two which sees Maeve paired up with a female hero, is purposely a “cringe-worthy and contrived post-battle romance scene” to comment on LGBT+ representation in superhero movies.
Following an exchange of dialogue Maeve and the female hero lean in to kiss only for the director to yell “cut!” before their lips touch, again suggesting the series is poking fun at the likes of Marvel’s “hinting” at character’s sexuality, but never being explicit about it.
How to stream The Boys
The first two seasons of The Boys are now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. They feature eight episodes each which follow a group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys”, who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.
It stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligot, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso and Chace Crawford as various members of The Boys and The Seven.
Amazon recently confirmed that the series has been renewed for a third season, with filming expected to be wrapped in September 2021.
