SNL epically roasts Ted Cruz’s bizarre war on Sesame Street with help from ‘Marjorie Taylor Greene’
Saturday Night Live (SNL) roasted Republicans Ted Cruz and Marjorie Taylor Greene with some help from Big Bird and Britney Spears.
Actor Cecily Strong joined the late-night sketch show to spoof the Georgia representative for her support of the big-tent conspiracy theory QAnon.
Strong, wearing Greene’s trademark red blazer and toting an AR-15, appeared on “Cruz Street” – a reference to Ted Cruz’s war on Sesame Street‘s Big Bird.
Yes, that was a real sentence. The Republican senator has genuinely been at war with the muppets after Big Bird tweeted he had received a COVID vaccine.
This, Cruz tweeted earlier this month, is an example of “government propaganda for your five-year-old”.
Majorie Taylor Greene’s belief in QAnon roasted by SNL
Comedian Aidy Bryant took on the role of Cruz for SNL, and declared: “For 50 years I stood by as Sesame Street taught our children dangerous ideas like numbers and kindness.
“But when Big Bird told children to get vaccinated against a deadly disease, I said enough, and I created my own Sesame Street called ‘Cruz Street’.”
In front of the famous brownstone, ‘Cruz’ added: “It’s a gated community where kids are safe from the woke government.”
After the theme song, Strong’s Greene joined in with the bigoted fun, announcing she was “just taking a break from releasing the phone numbers of Republicans who voted for the infrastructure bill so they and their families get death threats”.
The sadly very real Greene was condemned for leaking the names and contact information of 13 House Republicans who voted in favour of a sprawling trillion-dollar infrastructure bill.
“I thought I’d stop by,” she said, before adding that the show was sponsored by the letter “Q”.
“Not the letter,” she said, “but the man.”
“He will tell us when JFK Jr, who is alive, will reveal himself and help president Trump reclaim his rightful throne.”
Elsewhere on Cruz Street, Big Bird himself arrived – played by Kyle Mooney – and wasn’t feeling too well. “So, this is what happened to you a week after you got the vaccine?” ‘Cruz’ asked.
“It sure is,” ‘Big Bird’ said. ‘Cruz’, with a little help from Pete Davidson’s Joe Rogan, came up with a few homemade remedies which definitely aren’t FDA-approved, including taking “zinc and ayahuasca and some horse medicine”.
The sketch even brought out Britney Spears, freshly released from her nearly 14-year-long conservatorship.
“Oh my God, you guys,” said Britney, played by Chloe Fineman, “we did it!”
