Mariah Carey sent Britney Spears touching message during ‘horrific’ conservatorship fight

Mariah Carey has revealed she reached out to Britney Spears during her lengthy conservatorship battle let her know: “You’re not alone.”

The “All I Want for Christmas is You” singer said that while she doesn’t exactly feel “an affinity” with Spears, she can relate on some level to her plight.

Mariah has previously said that her first husband, music boss Tommy Mottola, had “crippling control” over her, and has alleged that he installed cameras in the home they shared in order to keep tabs on her.

Mottola had admitted he was “obsessive”, writing in his 2013 memoir: “If it seemed like I was controlling, let me apologise again.”

Britney Spears has accused her own father of abusing the power he held as part of her conservatorship, and it has been alleged that she was surveilled in her own home.

In an interview with NME, Mariah said of Britney: “I’m not sure it’s an affinity. I think everybody on this planet deserves to be free and what they did to her, what I saw, was horrific. So I reached out to her through a mutual friend because I wanted her to know: ‘Guess what? You’re not alone.’”

“I remember when I was going through a lot of stuff years ago, Prince reached out to me and gave me a Bible and he talked to me for hours.

“He’s an amazing person and he cared about the music business and the industry being so screwed up – which it is. You’ve got to be a giving person. It doesn’t matter whether they’re my best friend or whatever, I just felt like it was the right thing to do.”

Mariah Carey previously spoke out in support of Britney following the “Toxic” singer’s explosive court testimony, in which she lifted the lid on her 13-year conservatorship.

In June, Britney told an LA judge that the legal arrangement was “abusive” and that she wanted her father to be imprisoned for his actions against her.

Five months later, the conservatorship was terminated.
